Sono di esempio le continue truffe aventi per oggetto le carte di pagamento (bancomat e carte di credito), il carpire le credenziali di accesso agli istituti di credito on line, la sostituzione di persona mediante l'utilizzo di account di posta elettronica e profili registrati su siti di blog e social network, ecc.
Purtroppo, come di sovente, l'attenzione su queste nuove tipologie di truffe viene messa in rilievo dalle associazioni dei consumatori.
